Daochier I. Imchen of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly constituency bye – election in Mokokchung district, securing a decisive margin of 3,123 votes.
According to the official Return of Election, Imchen garnered a total of 7,317 votes, defeating his closest rival, independent candidate Toshikaba, who polled 4,194 votes. Other candidates in the fray included Imliwapang, who secured 3,633 votes, and I. Abenjang who secured 3,219 votes. Imchatoba Imchen and T. Chalukumba Ao trailed with 147 and 144 votes respectively.
A total of 22,506 electors were registered in the constituency, out of which 18,654 valid votes were polled. The election also recorded 48 NOTA votes and 43 rejected votes, reflecting an overall high participation rate. Altogether 18,745 votes were cast in the election.
The bye-election was necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L. Imchen in November last year. Polling was peacefully conducted on 9th April 2026, and witnessed a strong voter turnout of over 82.21%, indicating an active public engagement in the democratic process.
With this victory Daochier I. Imchen has been duly elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly constituency. At the culmination of the day’s proceedings, Daochier I. Imchen received the Certificate of Election from the Returning Officer, Nockpai Konyak SDO(C), at the Mokokchung DC office, on 4th May 2026.
