The valedictory programme of 2nd Edition, of Showuba Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy Shamator District which was organized by the Shamator District Volleyball Association (SDVA), was held on 9th April 2026 at the Public Ground, Shamator, marking the culmination of an exciting and competitive tournament.
The programme was graced by the Special Guest, Benie M. Lamthiu, Hon’ble MLA and General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association, represented by P. Pokoi, President of Pathso Public Organisation.
The programme began with a brief welcome address by K. Yaksokiu Yimchunger, President of SDVA, who expressed gratitude to the special guest for his continuous support and encouragement towards the Association. He also acknowledged the Sponsor late Showuba family, all participating teams, officials, and supporters for contributing to the success of the tournament.
In his address, the special guest emphasized the transformative power of sports in shaping individuals and society. He noted that sports instil discipline, awareness and responsibility among the youth, helping them grow into confident and capable citizens. Highlighting the social value of volleyball, he remarked that the game strengthens community bonds, brings neighbours closer, and renews relationships.
Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Shinde, Superintendent of Police, Shamator, drew a meaningful analogy between volleyball and life. He stated that just as a volley team relies on role of a server, setter, spiker and defenders working in harmony to secure victory, success in life also depends on diverse skills, teamwork, and adaptability. He further added that volleyball teaches discipline, coordination, trust, quick decision-making, and resilience—qualities essential for success in life.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from teams across the district, showcasing remarkable talent and sportsmanship.
In the final results, Huhtangrü Village emerged as the Champion, while Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü secured the Runner-up position.
Individual Awards: Best Setter: Dungtikhum, Sunny Young Club Tuensang, Best Spiker: Yantsuba, Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü, Best Back: Lato, Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü, Player of the Tournament: Kirito, Huhtangrü Village.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Lato, General Secretary, SDVA, followed by prize distribution by Amongba Janger, Team Manager, SDVA, and a benediction.
The successful organization of the tournament reflects the growing enthusiasm for sports in the district and the commitment of SDVA in promoting volleyball as a platform for youth development and community unity.
