The Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) Wokha, in partnership with five Self Help Group (SHG) federations, organized the inauguration of the Weekly Bazaar at Public Ground, Wokha on June 3, 2025. 

The event was graced by Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan as the special guest. In his address, the advisor acknowledged the significance of the initiative and commended its role in supporting local farmers and entrepreneurs. He emphasized the importance of market chain accessibility, local product promotion, and strengthening the rural economy through collective responsibility. He also highlighted the role of Self Help Groups in transforming market accessibility by connecting producers to broader markets through a sustainable approach. Additionally, he discussed the credit lines available to farmers and the importance of value addition, such as improved packaging, branding, and quality control, to enhance product reach and maintain consistency in business models. These measures aim to improve income generation and support the local farming community across Wokha District. 

An official from the State Mission Management Unit of NSRLM delivered a speech focusing on the objectives of the Weekly Bazaar. The speech outlined the initiative’s purpose in improving market accessibility, regulating prices, stabilizing local trade, and supporting the growth of the local economy. The discussion also touched on the promotion of organic farming, advocating for sustainable agricultural practices that enhance overall productivity. 

The event was chaired by the Convenor, District Marketing Committee, Zuchibeni Odyuo, while the vote of thanks was delivered by District Functional Specialist, NSRLM, DMMU Wokha, Daniel Ovung. 

The five SHG federations involved in organizing the Weekly Bazaar include Samyan Federation, Sanis Block; Lijü Federation, Wozhuro; Zukhumki Federation; Echungren Cluster Level Federation; and Englan Yingsung WLT and CCS Ltd. 

The Weekly Bazaar will be held twice a week, starting at 6:00 AM, serving as a vital platform for local farmers and entrepreneurs to showcase their products, improve market accessibility, and contribute to the sustainable economic development of the District.
