On 3rdApril 2025, Gangtok, Sikkim proudly hosted the Joint Executive Committee Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III and the North East Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training & Research (NERIPSTR). Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, presided over the meeting as its Chairman and President. The session brought together the Presiding Officers of the eight North Eastern States, accompanied by senior officials from their respective States.
A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion on finalisation of the dates for the upcoming 22nd Annual CPA Conference, proposed to take place in Kohima, Nagaland. After thorough deliberation, the committee tentatively agreed on 9th–15th November, 2025 as the conference dates, contingent on approval from the Speaker of Lok Sabha. Reports were presented by the Commissioner & Secretary of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the Secretary of CPA India Region Zone-III, and the Additional Director of NERIPSTR.
In light of these reports, the Chairman, with the consensus of the house, announced the formation of two subcommittees to advance CPA’s objectives:
Subcommittee 1 will be led by the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly (Vice Chairman, CPA India Region Zone-III), alongside the Speakers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. This subcommittee will oversee workshops, seminars, and other parliamentary initiatives to promote CPA’s vision in the region.
Subcommittee 2 will be headed by the Speaker of Sikkim, supported by the Speakers of Mizoram and Tripura. This subcommittee will produce a bi-monthly newsletter detailing CPA and NERIPSTR activities as they forge ahead with their shared mission.
Additional discussions touched upon fiscal measures to strengthen NERIPSTR’s operational capabilities. The meeting concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to the Chair by the Speaker of Sikkim and the exchange of pleasantries among the attendees.
