Two members of the North Eastern Council (NEC), Ministry of Development North Eastern Region (DoNER), Tenzing Norbu Thongdok and Longki Phangcho, along with other officials, visited the Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre, Planning & Transformation Department, to review NEC-supported initiatives at its office, Secretariat, Kohima, on 15 May 2025.
The members urged the department to capture, update the spatial data, and also store all development projects under the NEC-funded schemes. They also advised them to help the concerned department capture the cadastral mapping, life-saving drugs, and road connectivity to the health centres in the state. Acknowledging the department, Tenzing Norbu Thongdok urged the department to make a partnership with other states and share their innovations and achievements.
The Senior Director, Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre, Mhathung Kithan, highlighted the activities of the centre and the projects implemented with the line departments to the NEC members. The visit highlighted the preparation of the Geospatial Plan for Governance & Sustainable Development, showcasing NGISRSC's role in Geospatial technology for governance and decision support in the state.
Through hands-on demonstrations, the delegation experienced the project's key achievements: a Geospatial command & facilitation centre fostering interdepartmental coordination and Geospatial data dissemination, a web-based centralised Geospatial Units operational in 15 stakeholder departments for data-driven governance, and UAV-acquired high-resolution imagery of 13 urban stations enhancing monitoring and decision support.
They also took a tour of the drone division, which featured demonstrations of drone applications, research and innovations, showcasing their role in planning and monitoring. The NEC members also commended the innovative integration of UAV technology, recognising its transformative potential for regional governance. The visit culminated with commendation for NGISRSC, for its significant contributions in the geospatial sector, promoting interdepartmental collaboration, decision support and governance.
