Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) has Organised a one-day awareness programme on "Child Rights" on 16th April 2025 at DB's Court, ADC Office, Chiephobozou.

Delivering a keynote address, Alun Hangsing, Chairman, NSCPCR said that the main purpose of child rights was to ensure that children's basic needs are met, they are protected from harm, and they can develop to their full potential which includes fundamental guarantees like the right to life, non-discrimination, and dignity, as well as civil and political rights like identity and nationality. Adding that Child rights were also about protecting children from exploitation, abuse, and neglect, and ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and other essential services like Protection and Well-being, he said Child rights aim to protect children from physical and mental violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of any kind, and to ensure children have access to essential needs like food, shelter, healthcare, and clean water, which are crucial for survival and development. Child rights safeguard children from dangerous or harmful environments, including child labor, trafficking, and sexual abuse. They guarantee children the right to education and opportunities to develop their full potential, including access to quality learning and resources, he added.

Speaking at the Program, ADC Chiephobozou, Alemyapang Longchar stated that Children everywhere were vulnerable to abuse and exploitation in today’s society needs to be stopped at any cost. He called upon the participants and Key Stakeholders like parents, Relatives, Community, School, Church, Child helpline, Child welfare Committee, Local Police etc. to create awareness and spread the information on Child Rights and Protection to ensure a safe environment for our children to enable them to live with dignity and free from any form of violence

The resource Persons from NSCPCR, Akumla Longchari, emphasized on understanding the POCSO Act and its implementation. Overview on the Juvenile justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act was stressed by Legal Consultant, Lichani Murry, while Rights of Children with regard to Education and Presentation on status of Child issues in Kohima District were elaborated by Aying Wangsha, Member and Sekho Dawhuo, DCPO Kohima respectively.

The Program was chaired by Lesley Ezung Member and CWC, Kohima and vote of thanks was delivered by Vepotolu Ringa, Protection Officer (I.C) DCPU Kohima
