The Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Mission Shakti Nagaland and Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission observed the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at Capital Convention Center, Kohima on 25th November 2025.
Advisor Social Welfare Department and Chief Ambassador for “He or She” campaign against Gender based violence, Wangpang Konyak graced the occasion as the special guest.
Speaking at the event, Wangpang Konyak acknowledged the event as the start of a journey for transforming Nagaland into a place where no women would live in fear because of her gender. He highlighted the widespread prevalence of violence against women across the world and put special emphasis on the alarming increase in violence against women in our state stating that the recent unfortunate incidents in Kohima was a wake-up call for everyone. He said that violence against women was not just a woman issue but was an issue for all humanity and any act of violence against women was a shame for the entire community as a whole. He urged all to become ambassadors of women safety in all walks of life and to raise their voices against gender based violence and to teach their children about protection of women and their rights. In conclusion he further called upon everyone to stand up and confront any form of violence against women and to act as a medium of change so as to bring an end to gender based violence and make Nagaland a safe place where women can thrive without any fear.
Secretary and AHOD Social Welfare Department, Limawabang Jamir, IAS in his keynote address gave a brief report on the efforts of the Department and the various initiatives undertaken so as to ensure the social and economic upliftment of women in the State. He encouraged the menfolk to act as agents of change in society and to make efforts to make the home and workplace a safe place for women. He further urged one and all to be an ambassador for this good cause.
The event was chaired by Director, Social Welfare Department, Tosheli Zhimomi while Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Yongchingkumla presented the concluding remarks.
Earlier, Advisor Social Welfare Department and Chief Ambassador for “He or She” campaign against Gender based violence, Wangpang Konyak launched the 16 days activism against gender based violence and also inaugurated eight new Gender Resource Centres in Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, Changtongya, Pfutsero, Wokha and Satakha.
