The 3rd Kohima Aor Pensioner Telungjem (KAPT) was held on July 25 at the KABA Lerie Fellowship Tenla Ki, Kohima
The programme was chaired by President of KAPT, Dr. Watijungshi Jamir. The event began with a solemn remembrance for pensioners who have passed away, led by N. Wati Atsongchanger, Joint Secretary. A moment of silence and prayer was observed in their honour.
A special health session was conducted by Dietician at CIHSR Dimapur, Imsutula Jamir, who gave a comprehensive presentation on “How to Eat Well as You Age.” She highlighted the physiological changes that occur with aging and stressed the importance of good nutrition to achieve healthy aging. Key points included the role of protein in maintaining muscle mass, the importance of fiber to aid digestion and lower cholesterol, and the need for adequate hydration. She emphasized daily water intake recommendations (25–30 mL/kg/day) and the essential roles of calcium, magnesium, zinc, sodium, potassium, and vitamins in elderly nutrition.
She also shared practical tips such as consuming a well-balanced, nutrient-dense diet, eating small frequent meals, avoiding greasy and spicy foods, staying hydrated, and abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, and smoking. Light physical activity and mental engagement were also encouraged for overall well-being.
General Secretary of NBCC, Rev. Prof. Mar Pongen, delivered a message on spiritual aging and purpose post-retirement. Calling pensioners the “wisdom bearers” of society, he reminded them that retirement is not the end of meaningful living. “Faith does not grow automatically, it comes through listening,” he said. Encouraging the elderly to remain rooted in faith, he urged them to be voices of unity and wisdom in society, bearing spiritual strength as they grow older.
The programme also featured an interactive discussion and Q&A session, along with the handing and taking over of responsibilities among office bearers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Temsu Jamir, Vice President.
It was also stated during the programme that a total of 639 pensioners have registered with the association to date.
