Speaking as the guest of honor, Daochir I. Imchen recounted the history of Dr. T. Ao, who despite the limited resources, exposure and opportunities during his time, with great determination, discipline and extraordinary talent led India’s first Olympic team in 1948 at the London Olympics.

Extending his appreciation to the organizing committee for keeping alive the legacy of Dr. T. Ao and providing opportunities for young people, he also congratulated the semi-finalists for their sheer determination, sacrifice, perseverance and teamwork. He reminded them that while the Jersey one wore represented one’s district, the character one displays represents who he is.

“No district can prosper in isolation; no community can progress by leaving others behind, and no state can achieve greatness without unity among its people”, Imchen stated, and urged the people to remember that we are all part of one larger Naga family, beyond this competition.

While recognizing the difficult reality of thousands of the young talents across the state struggling to find opportunities they deserved, Imchen appreciated the leadership and vision of the Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio for laying the foundations of an ecosystem for the talented youths to explore opportunities to help realize their dreams and talents. Highlighting the young generation’s ambitions, creativity and potential, he said that the greatest resource of the state is in the talent and energy of our young people. He also acknowledged the responsibility to give the next generation a future worthy of proud legacy that Dr. T. Ao gave the state. Lastly, he encouraged the players to dream bigger and become the best players, not only in their districts and the state, but also the country by upholding the greatest standard of sportsmanship.
