Zunheboto Police as part of continued operation on war on drugs on 6th February 2023 during the election period intercepted a vehicle at Khitsakita in Zunheboto by a combined team of Atoizu Police Station and Static Surveillance Team (SST) whereby 200 bottles of cough syrup and 6,900 numbers of SP capsule were seized and one person namely Hukato Assumi S/O Nihokhu Assumi was arrested. In this connection, a case was registered under Atoizu PS C/NO. 0001/2023 U/S22(C) NDPS Act.

Police investigation disclosed that the cough syrup was sourced from a person name, Kajol Baidya S/O Dhiremdra in Dimapur who works in a pharmacy without any prescription by a doctor or a medical practitioner. Therefore, a non-bailable warrant and search warrant was obtained from the Honorable Court. Subsequently a search and arrest operation was carried out whereby Zunheboto police raided the identified premises and arrested the alleged accused and seized another 752 cough syrup and sealed the premises (shop and go down) RK drug distributors, MP road Dimapur Nagaland. Further investigation is being pursuit to unravel the Nexus in the instant case of drugs smuggling.

The Nagaland Police has advised the public not to sale, purchase or transport or use banned prescription drugs without advice from medical practitioners. Pharmacists and chemists are also warned and advised that prescription drugs should not be solved without medical advice as the same is a contravention of the NDPS act and other legal provisions which may result in not only criminal action but also cancellation of the licenses. Any information about persons involved in drug trafficking or traffickers may kindly be shared with Nagaland police through its social media handles or by email or to any senior officers in the department. It also informed that the names or photos or phone numbers etc. of traffickers can be shared with police. The identity of the informers will be safeguarded, it added.
