A Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated at Baptist College, Kohima by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, Member Secretary, Neiko Akami, NJS Kohima on 1st November 2024 at the college premises.  

Akami highlighted the significance of law and mentioned that the basic principles of laws are in alignment with the Ten Commandments from the scripture. 

He also added that the Legal Aid Clinic is a basic help centre and outlined the provisions to which one can avail through the clinic. He further cited the numerous laws which the citizens can claim like Right to Education, Right to Information, Motor Vehicles Act, National Food Security Act, and other social legislations.

Akami also mentioned free Legal Services provided including seeking first-hand legal knowledge and advice drafting of applications, legal declaration such corrections of names or income certificates for the poor and downtrodden citizens among others. He also emphasized on Legal Services giving awareness programs in the villages, colleges, schools etc. 

The Member Secretary encouraged students to utilise the benefits of legal services clinic opened in their campus to lead a responsible citizens and to spread the legal awareness.

Chief Judicial Magistrate & Secretary of Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA), Wokono Yhoshii highlighted the functions and objectives of Legal Aid Clinics. She underscored that Legal services is to provide free access to justice so that nobody is left out due to economic or social status. 

She gave the hierarchical figure of the Legal Services in the country and also informed that the new legal aid clinic is not only for the college but it can play a vital round for all the people around the college locality if anyone requires legal services. 

She also encouraged the students to check out the legal awareness pamphlets provided by the state legal services authority.

Assistant Professor and convenor, Legal Aid Committee, Baptist College, Naro chaired the programme, while the welcome note was delivered by Interim Principal, Baptist College, Kohima, Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe. Thrunso K and Enibemo Kikon of BA 1st semester presented a special number.
