One day seminar on Women working in unorganised sector in Nagaland organized by the Entrepreneur Associates was held at State Academy Hall, Kohima on 28th November 2024.
Speaking on the occasion the Governor, La Ganesan said that focusing on the important topic of “Women Working in the Unorganized Sector in Nagaland: Challenges and Opportunities.” Women play vital roles in the socio-economic development of our country but are usually the unsung heroines. He expressed his happiness for having such seminar to acknowledge the role of these women and also empower them.
Women in the unorganized sector often work tirelessly behind the scenes. In Nagaland, they comprise a significant portion of this sector, making invaluable contributions that are both diverse and essential. According to the e-Shram portal report of 2021, approximately 8% of Nagaland's population is engaged in the informal sector, with women comprising more than half of this workforce. These remarkable women are not just contributors, but many are the primary breadwinners of their families. The resilience and dedication of these women have consistently influenced and moulded the socio-economic landscape of our state and our country, the Governor said.
The Governor further said that we are aware of the multitude of challenges facing workers in the informal sector. Irregular income, lack of adequate infrastructural support and limited access to financial services are some of the hurdles that need to be overcome. These challenges highlight the critical need for awareness and education about various governmental welfare schemes designed to support them. Initiatives like today’s seminar are steps in the right direction, aligning with India’s ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Every citizen’s effort is needed, and acknowledging the unyielding spirit of these women is imperative for national progress. Our seminar today serves as a vital platform to explore solutions, share knowledge and empower women through awareness of various welfare schemes and opportunities.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to The Entrepreneur Associates for their commitment to entrepreneurship and sustainable development in the state, as they have been organizing seminars, business trainings, awareness programs on environmental protection, tree plantation and providing financial support in order to nurture aspiring entrepreneurs. Contributions like theirs are crucial to building a stronger, more inclusive Nagaland and India.
The Governor urged everyone to continue supporting these efforts, ensuring that every woman, especially those in the unorganized sector, receives the opportunities and support they deserve, and work together to create a future where every woman's contribution is recognized, enabling our society to flourish.
