The Indian Red Cross Society Wokha District Branch (IRCSW) commemorated World Red Cross Day on 8th May 2025 at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall, Wokha under the theme "On the Side of Humanity."
Deputy Commissioner and IRCSW President, Vineet Kumar, welcomed and congratulated the newly inducted members while acknowledging the contributions of past members to the organization’s humanitarian efforts. He provided a broad overview of the Red Cross Society’s mission, emphasizing its role in humanitarian service.
The event’s theme speaker, District Session Judge Wokha, Seyielenuo Mezhii, delivered an insightful address on the history and significance of the Red Cross Society and its annual observance. She highlighted its global humanitarian contributions and stressed the importance of human welfare, social reform, and inclusivity. Drawing connections to constitutional safeguards, she reflected on the organization’s role in advancing fundamental rights and directive principles of state policy. Additionally, she aligned the principles of the Red Cross Society with Christian values, reinforcing its commitment to service and compassion.
Honorary Secretary, Dr. K.Z. Ovung presented the 2024-25 Activity Report, outlining the Society’s relief initiatives for landslide victims, fire victims, orphanages, hospitals, and selected villages across Wokha District. Assistance included essential relief materials and financial support for affected communities.
A report from the Search Committee was shared by Convenor Dr. Jonsuthung Kithan, followed by the introduction of newly inducted Honorary Secretary Nzano P. Kikon and Treasurer Dr. Nchumbemo Ezung.
A special number was presented by Perennial School, Wokha. The program was led by Orenvungo Humtsoe, ensuring smooth coordination of events. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Nchumbemo Ezung, concluding the program with appreciation for all participants and contributors.
The observance of World Red Cross Day in Wokha District reinforced the organization’s dedication to humanitarian service, advocating for welfare, inclusivity, and social progress in alignment with its global mission.
