A meeting was conducted with the Village Councils, GBs, Police and security agencies to review the overall law & order situation of the incidents that took place on 23rd May at Unity Village on 26th May, 2025 was held at DPDB, Conference Hall, Chumoukedima.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima, Polan John expressed the incidents as unfortunate  and distributing for all, such incidents taking place shows that the factions does not regard on public opinion. By at large from all tribal sections, forum or union and citizens is claiming for peace at this stage and negotiation is in advance stage with the GoI for solution and there are rules which they have to abide by, he added. The DC also said that such incident are illegal action and are liable to be punish as per the law, movement outside the designated camp with arms is prohibited and violation of ceasefire ground rules. Therefore, public are raising out on such incidents but such incidents keeps occurring, where village authorities are concerned and spear heading for the voice of the people against such acts. Such incidents are serious offences and if they do not pay heed to the sentiments of the public than gradually the public confidence and trust of the faction will be question. As government functionaries we will be compelled to take up to cease fire monitoring group, if they keep violating the ceasefire rules repeatedly, he said.  

He expressed to the village councils & GBs for sharing their concerns and valuable suggestions and assured a detail report from the police will be submitted to the higher level, where serious actions will be initiated. Emphasizing on ceasefire rules, he said a clear cut direction from the ceasefire ground rules is needed. As government machinery they have their own protocols to be followed, so there is limitation on their part but assured to coordinate, assist and provide necessary guidance, and urged the councils to forward their representation and ultimatum.

DC hoped that this meeting will take forward in a positive note with the collaboration from security, Police forces and district administration. He urged the village councils to be in contact with the administration, Police and security forces and in case of any incidents occurred in the near future will not have communication gap and act more promptly.

For law and order situation, the security and police forces highlighted that after the incidents they had an operations, but as per the ceasefire ground rules their hands are tied and they were not allowed entry at the ceasefire monitoring office. They also inform that the government is waiting for a detail report and so with the submission they will wait for further directions from the higher ups. ‘Crime is a crime and as police they are well aware of it and will take actions accordingly’ they added. They also pointed that extortion is happening everywhere, but no one is coming forward to complain, so they urged the leaders to support and cooperate for legitimate crime. Police are on the job to arrest the culprit involved in the case and assured that the issues will be taken up soon.

Representative from all the village councils expressed their grievances of the incidents. They said the village councils are concern for the safety of the citizens and so they have decided to take a stern action even up to the extent of cancelling the patta, non-cooperation and expelling from the village and not to have any designated camp in the village. The public are anguished at the incident, and if such incidents occur again they will take actions in their own hands. Also they resolved to file an FIR to arrest the culprit within 48 hours, and requested the administration to assure that such incidents should not take place and to take stern actions to stop such incidents in the near future.
