Wokha district commemorated the International Day of Older Persons on 1st October 2025 at VDB Hall. The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Senior Citizen Association Wokha, under the theme "Older Person Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspiration, Our Well-being, Our Rights."
Extra Assistant Commissioner, Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan attended as the special guest. In his remarks, he highlighted the transformative roles played by senior citizens, acknowledging their foundational contributions that have eased the lifestyles of younger generations through their sacrifices. He spoke of their efforts spanning many aspects of life, opening opportunities for change and access to modern facilities. He expressed gratitude for their sacrifices in bridging developmental roles and addressed concerns about drug and alcohol addiction, emphasising the role of senior citizens in fostering positive change for future generations.
Sharing on the theme was given by Vice Principal, Mt. Tiyi College Wokha, Dr Khyopenthung Tsopoe, who emphasised the concept of senior citizens as bearers of wisdom and knowledge. He encouraged their continued contribution to societal development, drawing inspiration from various global personalities who have acted as lighthouses of growth, development, and leadership.
District awards were presented to two senior citizens, one male and one female, namely Rev. M. Wosumo Humtsoe and Anymro Lotha.
O. Orhyumomo Lotha expressed words of gratitude on behalf of the senior citizens. He provided a brief account of the inception and formation of the Senior Citizens Association Wokha, highlighting its role and objectives.
The welcome and introductory remarks were delivered by District Welfare Officer C. James Ezung. The program was chaired by N. Renchio.
