The North Eastern Council (NEC) released over ₹58.96 crore in May-June 2026 to support various development initiatives in Nagaland out of which ₹48.02 crore was allocated under NESIDS (Roads) and remaining fund released was under the Scheme of NEC (SoNEC). These funds were directed towards improving infrastructure, road connections, tourism, rural development, and skills training, as well as community facilities.
₹48.02 crore allocated under NESIDS (Roads) was for seven road projects: Such as Upgradation of Road from Thizema via Kohima By-Pass Road to proposed Chiethu Airport via Nehre Model Village; Improvement of Road from Phomching Hq. (Nagaland) to Longding Hq. (Arunachal Pradesh) via Wetting Longjang & Phuka Village; Improvement of Road from Coco Road Anglomi Old British Bungalow to Ghukiye Junction via Kilki Road; Construction of Road from Old Peren to New Peren (DC office) Via Chalkot Junction; Construction of Road from Jalukie to New DO Complex Model Township at Peren; Upgradation of Road from Tuensang to Longleng; and Upgradation of Road from Khonoma Village to NH-29 via Tzudza River.
These roads are intended to improve travel between states, districts, and to airports. The goal is to better connect remote villages, boost the economy, and make it easier for people to access essential services.
Through SoNEC, NEC released fund for various community and skill development projects. This includes setting up a Skill Development Centre-cum-Garo Community Centre in Dimapur and a Rongmei Multi-Purpose Complex in Jalukie. Funding also went to the project, Tribal Artisans Resource Centre in Chumukedima.
NEC released during the months include the first instalment for an Integrated Development Project in the backward area of Phomching Assembly Constituency in Mon district. The total project cost for this project is ₹6.26 crore. The other fund released in May-June are for projects related to tourism, coffee processing, trade facilities, technical education, and public amenities.
It is also worth mentioning that the 9.60 km Glory Peak Tourist Road in Phek district has been completed during May-June. This project, costing ₹32.50 crore, improves access to popular spots like Glory Peak, Kapamodzu Forest, and Japan Cave. The road is expected to benefit around 28,387 people living in 11 nearby villages.
During May-June, 2026, NEC also released ₹18.93 Crore to regional agencies including universities, technical institutes, NGOs, Societies, etc. for promotion of NE Region, of which Nagaland is one of the biggest recipients as various events were held & study projects were conducted in Nagaland, such as the (i) Two Day State Level Workshop on Empowering Communities through Eco-Tourism: Conservation, Livelihood & Sustainable Development organized by NEPED, (ii) Study on Physics Academy of the NE India conducted Nagaland University, (iii) Training Capacity Building & Sensitization Programme for PM-Gati Shakti Geospatial Operations NGISRSC, Kohima, among others.
These investments show NEC's comprehensive strategy to enhance connectivity, tourism, education, tribal welfare, and food processing in Nagaland, aiming for balanced growth across the state.
