Under the directive of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across Nagaland, under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), conducted a Special Lok Adalat on Negotiable Instrument (NI) Cases on 18th July 2026.

A total of 22 NI Act cases at Pending stage were taken up across the State, of which five cases were amicably settled, with a total settlement amount of ₹58,58,800.

The Kiphire DLSA, through e-Lok Adalat, recorded the highest settlement, disposing of all three cases taken up with a settlement amount of ₹51,08,800. Dimapur DLSA settled one of seven cases for ₹4,00,000, while Peren DLSA disposed of its lone case with a settlement amount of ₹3,50,000.

At Kohima DLSA, eight NI Act cases were taken up but none could be settled and were referred back to the regular court. Similarly, one case each taken up by Mokokchung DLSA and Zunheboto DLSA remained unresolved and were returned to the regular court.

The Special Lok Adalat provided an effective platform for the amicable settlement of disputes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, promoting speedy, cost-effective and accessible justice while reducing the burden of prolonged litigation.
