The Government of Nagaland has expressed profound grief over the tragic landslide incident in Mon Town at around 06: 30. AM, on 19th July, 2026, which has resulted in the loss of precious lives and caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure. The Government extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prays for the eternal peace of the departed souls. It also wished a speedy recovery to all those who have sustained injuries.
The State Government is closely monitoring the evolving situation arising from the ongoing extreme weather events affecting several parts of the State. Apart from Mon District, Tuli Sub-Division in Mokokchung District and other affected areas have also witnessed severe impacts, including landslides, flash floods, road blockages, and damage to public infrastructure and private property.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), District Administrations, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police, and other line departments are working tirelessly on the ground to undertake search and rescue operations, evacuate vulnerable residents, restore essential services, and provide immediate relief to the affected population.
The Chief Minister of Nagaland has announced immediate ex-gratia assistance of ₹4.00 lakh (Rupees Four Lakh only) to the next of kin of each deceased person and Rs. 74,000/- (rupees seventy-four thousand only) to all the injured. Relief assistance, including food, temporary shelter, essential commodities, and other eligible support will also be provided to all affected families across the impacted districts.
The Government has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert and ensure seamless inter-departmental coordination for timely response, restoration of connectivity, and rehabilitation of affected communities. Continuous assessment of the situation is being undertaken, and additional assistance will be mobilized wherever required.
The public is advised to remain vigilant, avoid vulnerable slopes, riverbanks and landslide prone areas, adhere to advisories issued by the NSDMA, Home Department, District Administration and cooperate with emergency response agencies, rely only on official sources of information and refrain from circulating unverified reports or rumours.
The Government of Nagaland stands with all affected families during this difficult time and remains committed to extending all assistance, ensuring timely relief and restoring normalcy at the earliest.
