Wokha District celebrated the 80th Independence Day at the Public Ground, Wokha on 15th August 2026, with Advisor for Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, Mhathung Yanthan, gracing the occasion as Special Guest. The day’s observance began at dawn, with the National Flag hoisted at 6:00 AM across all Government offices, institutions, officials’ residences, private homes, shops, and business establishments. The formal programme commenced with the arrival of the Special Guest.
The National Song was played, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag by Advisor Mhathung Yanthan, who took the Rashtriya Salute as the National Anthem resounded. He then inspected the parade contingents and delivered an Independence Day Speech. The National Song and Anthem were played once more, after which district awards and commendation certificates were conferred upon deserving individuals. The march past and cultural programme added grandeur to the celebration.
The parade contingents included DEF Wokha, 7th NAP, Home Guard, NCC 24th Nagaland Battalion, NCC Mt. Tiyi College, Ex‑Servicemen, Scouts and Guides, DBHSS Wokha, Santsuo School Wokha, Fernbrook School Wokha, Isaiah Ability School Wokha, Cistus School Wokha, Springdale School Wokha, and Perennial School Wokha. The band party was led by Fernbrook School, while the contingents were commanded by SDPO Wokha, Sangthing Khiam, NPS. The cultural segment featured a folk song, Lijon Ro‑jon Enyan, presented by the Female Cultural Club of Wokha Village, and a folk and victory dance (Ekhyo Sharü), performed by Fernbrook School, Wokha.
District awards were presented to Thunglamo Humtsoe, Operator, DPRO Wokha, and Yanpothung Mozhui, Peon, District Agriculture Office Wokha. Commendation certificates were awarded to T. Nchumbeni Lotha, UDA, Deputy Commissioner’s Office Wokha; Dziesengunuo Dominica Solo, Staff Nurse, DMMDH Wokha; Chuba Ezung, Sanitation Driver, Wokha Town Council; and Khehoe Sema, MTS, Office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bhandari.
Advisor Yanthan inaugurated the exhibition stalls showcasing products and services from various departments. The stalls drew wide attention, with participation from Judongphen Thera Self Help Group, the Medical Team Wokha, Special Intensive Revision Team, Wokha District Legal Services Authority, District Economic and Statistics, Khomotongju Farmers’ Cooperative, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service, Department of Social Welfare, Obenro Self Help Group of Thenayan Village, Divisional Management Unit, KVK Wokha, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Nzan Naga Craft of Wozhuro Block, N Zenka SHG, Zuvotong SHG, Koio VLO, New Riphyim VLO, Nungying VLO, BMMU Chukitong, Likya SHG, Wokha Circle Federation, DEF Wokha, ATMA Wokha, Horticulture Department, and Agriculture Department.
Officials carried out institutional visits, reaching out to the Senior Citizens Home under Wokha IRCS, the Founding Harbour Children’s Home supported by Team Metamorphosis, the Morning Star Children’s Home under WDCCI, the District Jail through Lotha Eloe Hoho, and Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital where SBI Wokha (Main Branch) extended its presence.
The celebration concluded with an exhibition SepakTakraw match played between Carmel Boys and Isaiah Hostelers, followed by the Beating of Retreat by DEF Wokha, bringing the day’s events to a dignified close.
