International Day of Girl Child 2021 was celebrated at Longleng under the theme 'Digital Generation, Our Generation' at Phom Lempong Convention Hall on 11th October with students and teachers of various schools under Longleng HQ.
In his exhortation speech, Deputy Commissioner Longleng, M. Shayung Phom asserted that the 10th of October is a glorious day as is a special day to stop discrimination to girl child and to uplift gender equality in the family and community. He appealed to the gathering to realize the importance of observing the day by honouring and respecting every girl child beginning from the family to the community.
Highlighting the importance of women in the modern society, Phom urged the male counterparts to realize and acknowledge the contribution of women in our society by honoring and supporting them with love and care. Referring to the theme, he said that living in a digital world, everyone has become part of the digital system. He urged upon the students to use it wisely. He also assured to extend all possible help for upliftment of girl child in the district.
EAC HQ, Longleng, Chingmei spoke on the theme: 'Digital Generation, Our Generation' while Superintendent, Observation Home Longleng Kezevinuo Thepa, spoke on rights and responsibilities of Girl Child.
The highlights of the daylong celebration were special number on BBBP by Government High School, Nyenching; drama on discrimination of girl child in the family and community by St. Joseph School and gender inequality by Christian High School; folk fusion music by Phom Lempong School; cultural dance by Bautung Government Higher Secondary School; poetry slam by Vision Vale School and Shamakok Mission School respectively and spot painting competition by girl students.
Earlier, the program begins with choreography by Good Shepherd School followed by invocation by Fr. Daily's Assistant Priest, St. Joseph Church, Longleng.
The program was organised by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), District Administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra - District Level Centre for Women (MSK-DLCW), Longleng Nagaland.
P. Phumla Phom, Women Welfare Officer, MSK-DLCW chaired the program and program concluded with a special number 'we are the world, we are the children' by Soul Sisters.
