International Women’s day was celebrated in Tuensang under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in collaboration with the Women Welfare Society and Book Club Tuensang at Town Hall, Tuensang.
DC and Chairperson BBBP Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant apprised the meaning of sustainability to the gathering and its importance to gender equality. He also referred to how social stratification, in form of varna, has impacted society in the form of caste and brought social disequilibrium in the Indian social context. The campaign for gender upliftment has been in every corner of the world and has done a tremendous stride in bringing justice to society. He said that the celebration of International Women’s Day should also be equally participated by the menfolk so that the topic discussed in the occasion can equally educate the male counterpart for the peaceful society. He advised the mothers gathered in the program to create a conducive environment for both boys and girls to begin experiencing gender equality from home.
Chairman, Women Welfare Society Tuensang, A. Alemla Chang, shared her experience in setting up a career based on handicraft. She said initially there was no one to teach her handicraft but he had a passion for tailoring which she picked up with the help of Urban Development Department Tuensang. She also advised the students to be sincere in their academics and also to explore the talents within themselves so that each could be successful in the future.
The celebration was marked with competitions on Prepared Speech, Extempore, and Quiz for which Ketsinle, EAC and Toking Yimchunger, EAC were the Judges and Khiako, District Child Protection Officer Tuensang was the Quizmaster. Welcome note was delivered by Nabum Tombou, Assistant Research Officer and founder of Book Club Tuensang while Songmao M, Women Welfare Officer concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
