The Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, held its 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2024–2025 at the Conference Hall, Red Cross Complex, Kohima, on Thursday, with Dr. Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland and Vice President of the IRCS Nagaland State Branch, as the Chief Guest.
The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Minister, followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting and an obituary segment in honour of the late Governor of Nagaland and President of IRCS Nagaland State Branch, La. Ganesan, who passed away in August 2025.
In his address, Chief Minister, Dr. Rio lauded the Nagaland branch of the Indian Red Cross Society for its tireless humanitarian service since its inception in 1982. He emphasized the organization’s vital role in providing relief to the vulnerable, promoting health and hygiene, conducting blood donation drives, and responding to disasters across the State.
Rio also acknowledged the dedicated leadership of Akhale Vizol Khamo, whose efforts have strengthened the Red Cross movement in Nagaland. Her contributions were nationally recognized with the National Indian Red Cross Society Award – Certificate of Appreciation for Women (2022–23).
Reflecting on the theme for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025, “Keeping Humanity Alive,” the Chief Minister said it serves as a powerful reminder to uphold kindness, empathy, and voluntary service in a world facing growing humanitarian challenges.
Encouraging members and volunteers to engage more youth in the movement, Rio described them as the torchbearers of compassion and the future of the Red Cross in Nagaland. He concluded by expressing gratitude to all volunteers and supporters for their selfless service and enduring spirit. The Chief Minister also released the Annual Report of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland 2025-2025 at the programme.
The General Secretary of IRCS Nagaland, Akhale V. Khamo, presented the annual report highlighting the Society’s humanitarian activities and achievements across the districts. Experience-sharing sessions followed, featuring Albert, Chairman of IRCS Peren District, and Nyamto Wangsha, Honorary Secretary of IRCS Mon District, who spoke about their respective district initiatives and challenges.
