The Department of Information & Public Relations organized a photography exhibition on the theme ‘Journey of Nagaland through the lens’ to commemorate the 76th Independence Day at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima on 15th August 2022. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio.

            The exhibition displayed photos depicting some of the State’s historic events, development activities, Members of the Interim Body of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Chief Ministers of the State and other dignitaries who have visited the State over the years, including some current events in the State. Some of the photos on display have been collated from government source and the others were sourced from IPR Department.

            Historical events like the then President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan delivering the inaugural address of the formation of Nagaland State on 1st December 1963, glimpses of the first Statehood Day celebration, Round Table Conference of Naga People’s delegation with Government of India at New Delhi etc. were on display.

            Photos of prominent figures like Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s visit to Zunheboto on 22nd October 1982, Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s visit to Mokokchung on 8th November 1968, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s visit to the State in 2003, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s visit to the Hornbill Festival in 2014, famous evangelist Dr. Billy Graham’s visit to Kohima for the Kohima Evangelistic Crusade, popularly known as Dr. Billy Graham Crusade held from 17th to 22nd November 1972, were some of the pictures that were also on display.

            The portraits of the 11 Chief Ministers, P. Shilu Ao, T. N. Angami, Hokishe Sema, Vizol, J. B. Jasokie, S. C. Jamir, K. L. Chishi, Vamuzo, T. R. Zeliang, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, and Neiphiu Rio that have served the State since the formation of Nagaland were also displayed. Members of the Interim Body of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 18th February 1961 – 30th November 1963 were exhibited.

            Photographs captured of some development activities that have taken place in the State over the years such as Chief Minister, S. C. Jamir inaugurating the International Trade Centre at Pangsha in Tuensang on 15th November 1996, Minister, Agriculture, Dr. S. Barnala inaugurating the first Agriculture and Veterinary College in Nagaland on 20th October 1978 at Medziphema, Union Minister, External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee inaugurating the New Secretariat Complex of Nagaland on 1st December 1995, launching of the first Helicopter service in Nagaland in 2007, inauguration of completed buildings of government offices like Industries & Commerce, Urban Development, Horticulture, Land Resources, DUDA Guest House (Tuensang, Mon, Longleng, Kiphire), Information & Public Relations etc. were also exhibited.

            Photos of events held in the State to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence were also exhibited. Photos related to COVID-19 pandemic across the State, the launch of COVID-19 vaccine on 14th January 2021, and with apprehensions over the vaccine, wide publicity needed to be done to allay the public’s fear, for which the Department was involved in creating awareness by capturing photos of doctors, who were the first recipients receiving the COVID vaccine, in all the districts.

            LED screens were also set up at the exhibition for visitors to view the photos displayed in the exhibition through virtual mode.
