Kohima Legislators led by Tongpang Ozukum, Minister Housing and Mechanical visited several market areas in Kohima to inspect and review the enforcement of Social Distancing rule during shopping hours on 22nd April 2020.
The committee on social distancing and lockdown enforcement has been working tirelessly to ensure that social distance is maintained by the general public while shopping for essential commodities in Kohima and had come up with a number of strategies in order to avoid congestion and rush of public at various key markets.
Tongpang Ozukum after the inspection expressed his satisfaction on seeing that the public were finally adhering to the social distancing rule and said that the situation has improved greatly in the last few days as the public are slowly realising the importance of social distancing. He commended the various organisations and volunteers who are assisting the district administration in enforcing the social distancing rule and said that they were making an invaluable contribution to the society. He also thanked the Angami Students Union who have been looking after the welfare of the students stranded in Kohima since the beginning of the countrywide lockdown.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie (NCS) who is also the chairman of the Covid 19 District Task Force said that the District Administration is also working tirelessly to ensure that the citizens of Kohima do not suffer during the lockdown and has been coming up with plans and strategies after careful evaluation of the needs of the people and that the Administrative team is slowly learning how to best deal with the current lockdown situation. The team visited a number of key markets namely the market at BOC, Razhu Point and High school Junction. The team after the inspection proceeded to KMC Toll Gate in NH29 to check and inspect the sanitizing of trucks carrying essential commodities.
