KOHIMA SCIENCE COLLEGE WOMEN’S HOSTEL INAUGURATED

            The Alumni PG Women’s Hostel, with a capacity for accommodating 40 Post Graduate students of Kohima Science College (KSC), was inaugurated by Dr. Joyce Zinyu Angami, the first Lady Doctor from KSC, on 13th April 2021 at Kohima Science College Campus. The Hostel is constructed by the Alumni Association Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.

            Dr. Joyce Zinyu Angami while inaugurating the Hostel said that the completion of the Hostel has been a dream come true for all those involved in the project, and she expressed hope that the Hostel will not just be a place to find academic excellence but also be a place of safety, peace and serenity.

            Principal, KSC, Dr. Lily speaking at the function pointed out that at present, Kohima Science College has four hostels, three boys hostels and one girls hostel, with a total capacity of 320 students. She informed that since 2016, after adopting the Choice Based Credit System, the College has seen a huge increase in the intake of students. The present session has enrolled around 2000 students with female students constituting 65% of the total students. She stated that the completion of the Hostel will be a huge relief for the College as many students are from the economically weaker section.

            Dr. Lily expressed her gratitude to the Alumni Association for their contributions and support, and she further reached out to them for their support in future development and improvement of the College.

            General Secretary, Alumni Association, Avelu Ruho sharing a brief history on the hostel construction said that the Alumni Association, formed on 3rd July 2009, initiated a project named Project Alpha 1 in 2009 during which the College’s Local Area Network (LAN) of 100 Mbps and High Speed Broadband Service was operationalized. Emboldened by the success of the project, the Association decided to pursue the need for constructing a girls hostel and named it as Project Alpha 2 with an estimated budget of Rs. 1 Crore, and the foundation stone was laid on 11th June 2011 by the then Minister of Urban Development, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu.

            Ruho revealed that the search for fund was not an easy one but after many setbacks faced in funding, the Association has received Rs. 90 lakh so far in donations and contributions alone from alumni, parents of students, college fraternity, well-wishers and also a raffle draw organized in 2017 have all contributed to the successful completion of the hostel. She thanked the faculty and staff of KSC, former Principals of the college involved with the project for the successful completion of the project.

            Reverend John Kamei delivered the dedicatory prayer for the Hostel and the inaugural programme was chaired by President, Alumni Association, Dr. N. Renthungo Jungio.
