The District Administration, Shamator in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Yimkhiung Liberü Arihako, Shamator Area, successfully organised a training on Life Skills aimed at empowering local youths through traditional and practical skill development on 22nd October 2025.
During the event, EAC Shamator, Kudazo Swuro delivered an inspiring address, sharing his vision of skilling all youths in the district. He emphasized that every young person should be trained and equipped with at least one trade or skill to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the district’s socio-economic growth. He further highlighted the construction sector as an area with immense employment potential, encouraging youths to pursue training in this field to enhance job opportunities within the district and across the state.
The training focused on traditional basket making and traditional cotton thread weaving methods, upholding deep cultural significance and serving as sustainable sources of livelihood. A total of 70 participants comprising enthusiastic youths and community members who are eager to acquire hands-on skills attended the programme. To ensure quality training, one trainee coordinator and four experts were engaged as tutors, who provided detailed demonstrations and guided the participants throughout the sessions.
The training concluded with an interactive session, where participants expressed their gratitude to the organisers for providing such a valuable platform to learn, preserve traditional craftsmanship, and enhance livelihood opportunities. The programme reflects a strong commitment toward youth empowerment, skill development, and cultural preservation in the district.
