The Awareness programme on Menstrual Hygiene, organized by District Administration Noklak and Sankalp - District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Noklak, was conducted at the KGBV Hostel Noklak on 8th September 2025.

Medical Officer, District Hospital Noklak Dr. Chongnya speaking on the occasion as the resource person, emphasized the biological significance of menstruation, highlighting its role in a girl's physical and reproductive development, typically beginning around the age of 12-13. He explained the phases of the menstrual cycle, including ovulation and hormonal changes, and taught simple methods to track cycles, helping attendees recognize patterns and anticipate their periods.

Dr. Chongnya focused on proper menstrual hygiene practices, including changing sanitary pads every 4-6 hours, washing hands before and after handling menstrual products, wearing clean and breathable innerwear, and safe disposal of used pads.

Dr. Chongnya also discussed the risks of poor hygiene, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), and shared preventive measures. Practical tips were offered to manage menstrual pain, including warm compresses, light physical activity and staying hydrated. The importance of seeking medical supervision for pain relief was also stressed.

The event was coordinated by District Mission Coordinator (DMC), DHEW Noklak, Vein M, who outlined key components of Mission Shakti, including initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, and other support services aimed at empowering women and girls.

Chairing the programme, DEO PMMVY, DHEW, Indhe, emphasized that menstruation is a natural and vital part of life. He urged the attendees to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation and foster an environment where girls can manage their health with dignity and confidence.

To reinforce the learning and encourage hygiene practices, sanitary pads were distributed to all participants.
