A vibrant celebration of health, nutrition and cultural heritage unfolded at the Mid-

Day Meal Mela held at the Local Ground in Ahthibung town under Peren District on 8th

December 2023. 

With participation from all Government Schools in Peren District, the event aimed to showcase their kitchen garden initiatives, promote local handicrafts, and foster healthy eating habits among the students.

The event provided a platform for schools to display their home grown vegetables and fruits, offering a glimpse into their successful kitchen garden programs. This highlighted the schools’ commitment to providing nutritious meals to students while promoting self- sufficiency and sustainable food practices.

Beyond the culinary focus, the Mid-Day Meal Mela also featured a vibrant display of

Students made handicrafts. This showcase of creativity and cultural heritage provided a platform for students to express themselves and share their traditions with the community.

The event also included a captivating cooking competition, where students demonstrated their culinary skills and experimented with healthy recipes.

The Mid-Day Meal Mela served as an important platform to raise awareness about the PM Poshan Scheme, a government initiative aimed at improving the nutritional status of School children. This initiative provides critical support to schools in ensuring students receive nutritious mid-day meals, contributing to their overall well-being and learning potential.

Thavaseelan K (IAS), Principal Director, School Education, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the Special Guest, delivering an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of health, hygiene, and nutrition amongst school children. He emphasized the need for schools to adopt kitchen gardening practices to supplement mid-day meals with fresh nutritious produce.

The programme was chaired by SIS Ahthibung, Hentinthang, while vote of thanks was proposed by Sr. SDEO Peren, Aheto Chophy.
