Mokokchung town had been awarded the Cleanest City in North East India under the Population of 25 to 50 thousand category by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri on 20th August 2020 during a virtual programme of the ‘Swachh Mahotsav 2020’ organised by the ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Chumukedima under Dimapur District was awarded the Best Self Sustainable City in North East India under the Population of 25 to 50 thousand category while Pfutsero bagged the Best City in Innovation and Best Practices in North East India under the Population up to 25 thousand category. The presentations were made by Secretary Housing and Urban Affairs, Durga Shanker Mishra, IAS.
Indore was announced as India's cleanest city for the fourth year in a row by the Minister and stated that the city of Indore and its people have shown exemplary dedication towards cleanliness. He extended his congratulations to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and the citizens for the superlative performance.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also interacted with select beneficiaries, swachhagrahis (clean India warriors) and Safai Karmis (sanitation workers) under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) during the virtual programme.
Swachh Survekshan 2020, a cleanliness survey covering 4,242 cities, 62 Cantonment Boards and 92 Ganga Towns based on their cleanliness quotient was completed in 28 days wherein total of 129 top performing cities and states were awarded by the Minister.
Advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire who attended the virtual programme of the ‘Swachh Mahotsav 2020’ at the State NIC Conference Hall at the Civil Secretariat congratulated the three winning towns of Nagaland. He stated that within a short span of time three Urban Local Bodies (ULB) out of 39 ULBs in the State were selected for the award and termed it a great achievement for of Nagaland. The Advisor pointed out that the achievement was possible due to the active participation of the citizens and congratulated them for their efforts. He also expressed hope that there would be better participation from other ULB’s of the State as well in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2021.
The virtual programme was also attended by Principal Secretary Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Himato Zhimomi and other senior officers of the Department.
