Deputy Chief Minister & Border Affairs, Government of Nagaland, Yanthungo Patton, graced the 80th Independence Day celebration 2026, at Local Ground, Mon as a special guest on 15th August 2026.
The programme begins with the singing of the National Song. The special guest unfurled the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem. Thereafter the special guest inspected the Parade contingents and read out the 80th Independence Day message. Singing of National Song and National Anthem follows with a March Past by 10 parade contingents. Later, he inaugurated the Stalls set up by different societies and departments.
Activities of the programme include cultural songs by KNSK, Wagim ward. Special Numbers “Thrive by Yangman Luklim and “Rise Up” by Phangmei Yanlem.
Mankap T Konyak, NPS, Asst. Comdt. ‘D’ Coy 11th NAP (IR) Bn was the Parade Commander. The Parade Contingents were 42nd Assam Rifles; DEF, Mon; Ex-Servicemen; Wangkhao Government College; Mon-NCC; Konjong Higher Secondary School, Mon; Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mon (Scout); Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mon (Guides); GHSS Mon Town “C” and 6th NAP Pipe Band. M. Chongti Khiamniungan, Asst. Prof. Wangkhao Government College and Yinai Konyak, Asst. Prof. Wangkhao Government College were the comperes of the Programme.
As a part of the celebration, National flags were Hoisted in all Government Offices & Educational Institutions and Parade Review by the Superintendent of Police, Mon. Other activities include institution visits to District jail by 100 RCC GREF; District Hospital Mon by NHIDCL; Orphanage Home by Water Resource Department, Mon; Old Age Home by F & CS (Supply) Office, Mon; District De-Addiction Centre, KBBB by NHIDCL. Tug of war, Inter-Departmental Penalty Shootout was also conducted in the evening. The daylong celebration culminated with Prize Distribution followed by Display of band and Beating of Retreat Ceremony by the 6th NAP Pipe Band.
