Shethilu Medeo from Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School and Iris Zomawii Lushai from Chumoukedima Government Higher Secondary School were selected by the Ministry of Education, Government of India to attend the Sakura Science High School Program with Gihukali Sema, PGT Chumoukedima Government Higher Secondary School as the supervisor to assist the team from India.
The Sakura Science High School Program (SSHP) under the broader Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (SAKURA Science Exchange Program), is a prestigious initiative by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), supported in India through the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL). The program aims to foster scientific curiosity, cultural exchange and international collaboration among exceptional high school students.
The selection of students is based on the criteria set by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI) and based on the criteria set, Samagra Shiksha/NBSE Nagaland shortlisted meritorious students who passed out their HSLC from Government Schools and are pursuing the science stream in Government Schools.
The SAKURA High School Program 2025 in Japan is from 13th June to 21st June. This 7-day program was sponsored by the MoE, GoI and included visits to schools, universities and various technological and cultural sites in Japan. The students will also participate in certain activities and deliver brief presentations.
