Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan visited the Wokha district and held a meeting with the Heads of Offices in the district and Civil Societies Organization at the Deputy Commissioner's Official residence on 15th June 2023. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan (IAS).

Addressing the meeting, Governor La. Ganesan said Wokha has been aptly called the “Land of Plenty” and the Wokha people have to live up to it and become the food bowl of the state. He said it was his earnest wish and desire to see Wokha as a developed district one day and contribute immensely to the state as well as the Nation. The Governor urged them to uphold the rich legacy left behind by their forefathers and they have to let peace prevail to allow development to flourish in their land.

He said it was his endeavor that every district in Nagaland has the four basic infrastructures namely Education, adequate health care, good roads, and adequate banking facilities. He added that Elementary education is a constitutional right and through flagship programmes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rastriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Project Nectar (funded by the World Bank), the Government has provided better school infrastructure and has appointed teachers and posted them to schools with insufficient teachers. Programmes and initiatives of the Government like providing free textbooks, mid-day meals, and free elementary education have re-defined the role of the state in the educational system. However, they still have a long way to go to reach the benchmark of quality education for all our citizens.

While speaking on Health care service in the district, he said it is an important focus area and quality healthcare should be the ultimate goal. The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), started in the year 2008 by the Government of India to improve the health care delivery system in rural areas, has boosted the health sector in a big way. Today, so many government healths related schemes are in operation including Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and the state’s own CM Health Insurance Scheme. He urged the concerned departments to take these government schemes to the doorsteps of the citizens so that the common citizens are benefited.

The Governor also impressed upon everyone the need to be good model citizens for the state as well as for the country. "As good citizens, we have to be law abiding and also co-operate and work hand in hand with government- both at the center and in the state. We have to reaffirm our commitment to the democratic values and ideals enshrined in our constitution. We have to work harder in our march toward a united, strong, and prosperous nation," Governor stated.

During the meeting, the Wokha Civil Societies Organization headed by the Lotha Hoho and comprising 11 (eleven) other organizations submitted a memorandum on behalf of the Lotha community, the memorandum which was submitted by the Chairman Lotha Hoho, Er. Mhondamo Ovung requested the Governor to either hand over the Wokha-Bokajan road to Border Roads Organization (BRO) or to sanction taking up the road construction project. Where the Governor assured to take up the matter with the concerned Ministry on priority to ensure that it is implemented.
