The culminating program of National Flag Rally in commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence (AzadiKaAmritMahotsav) celebration was graced by the Director General of Police Nagaland, John Longkumer at the Police Headquarter, Kohima on 14th August 2021.
Speaking on the occasion, John Longkumer said that the National Flag rally run organised by the Nagland Police was held as part of the 75 years of India’s Independence (AzadiKaAmritMahotsav) celebration. He informed that on 2nd March 2021, the Chief Secretaries of all the states were informed during a video conference regarding a decision of the Government of India to hold a chain of programmes to commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence and that the Anniversary of India’s freedom, (AzadiKaAmrutMahotsav) would commemorate 75 weeks prior to the Indian Independence Day 2022 and extended upto Indian Independence Day 2023. He added, the AzadiKaAmritMahotsav was launched on 12 March 2021 nationwide and in our state too, it was launched on 12th March 2021 at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio.
Longkumer said that the word AzadiKaAmrit literally means the nectar of freedom, and mentioned that the Prime Minister of India, NarendraModi while launching the programme has described it as the ‘Elixir of the Energy of Freedom’, the nectar of inspiration from the freedom fighters, nectar of new ideas, new resolutions and total self-reliance which would be an inspiration for the new generations to come.
He also said that through the programme, we pay homage and respect to the freedom fighters of our nation for their personal sacrifices, their spirit of unity and their love for the nation during the 200 years of British colonial rules. In our state too, he said that HaipouJadonang of Nagaland anticipating for freedom of his people from the clutches of the British colonial rule, revolted against the British but on 19 February 1931 at the age of 26 years he was arrested on charges of seduction and hanged thus becoming a martyr in India’s struggle for India independences.
Longkumer in his speech also described that the India freedom movement as the most remarkable in history as it was succeed as a non-violent movement through Mahatma Gandhi who spread headed the final pace of the India’s struggle for independence which today is regarded as the most propagate of peace. Pay homage to the freedom fighters, he added that we realise that their sacrifices have secured our future of hope, prosperity, development and unity. He said the need for unity is more accurate now as we not only combat the devastating forces that want to tear us apart but combat common enemies which seek to devour us more. He also called upon all that as India celebrates its Independence, it is also battling the COVID pandemic and said that in order to win this war all section of the society need to come together by cooperation with each other and observed all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all citizens. He also urged all to take the opportunity to rededicate oneself, safe guard the gifts our freedom fighters has stored for us and secure the nectar of freedom for the generations to come.
Delivering the welcome address, IGP (Range) Limasunep Jamir, IPS said that the National Flag Rally was partaken by officers and personnel of the 4 NAP, IRB and SP Kohima, and that a Coffee Table Book of the department would be released soon. The programme was chaired by AIGP (Prov) Temjensenla Jamir, NPS. The National Anthem was led by the DGP Band and the National Song, VandeMataram was sung by the Mahila Band.
