Along with the rest of the nation, Longleng District also Celebrated 16th National Voters’ Day, on the theme "My Indian, My Vote" on 25th January 2026, with Deputy Commissioner & DEO Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, NCS as the special guest, at DPDB hall Longleng.

    In his address, the Deputy Commissioner, W. Manpai Phom said the Election Commission of India (ECI) marks its foundation day on January 25, as National Voters' Day observed since 2011. The 16th edition targets first-time voters, particularly students turning 18, to raise awareness about their constitutional rights and responsibilities in nation-building.

The DC said, the ECI emphasizes that every citizens should balance their fundamental rights with duties, keeping democracy's pillars strong. By enrolling and voting, citizens contribute to a robust democratic system and urged voters to take responsibility for shaping their nation's future through informed participation. He also administered the voter day pledge.

In his keynote address, AEO Longleng, Nathan konyak said the National Voters' Day serves as a crucial platform to engage young voters and emphasize the significance of their participation in the electoral process. The primary objective is to educate citizens about their right to vote in a democratic country.

 He also acknowledged the gathering that the Election Commission of India, an autonomous body, is responsible for conducting elections. While elections are held once every five years, tasks such as collecting names for electoral rolls can be done throughout the year even through online. The commission's efforts aim to increase voter awareness and encourage active participation in the democratic process.

During the programme awards for best booth-level Offers (BLOs) were presented to Y. Buhu Phom, 49 A/C Tamlu and H. Khamba Phom, 50 A/C Longleng. A special presentation was performed by Ayung Phom from Yingli College. 

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sr. Head Assistant, Election Office Longleng, Mansang.

Earlier, the programme commenced with an invocation pronounced by Imkong, DB and chaired by LDA-cum-Computer Assistant, Viphreto Pusa.
