A one-day School Leadership Program was organized by Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on 26th April 2022 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima. The programme was designed to improve the Learning and Teaching practices in the schools and empower the Principals and Headmasters to implement the key recommendations of the New Educational Policy. The training programme also dwelt on upgrading the skills for better management of their schools. Altogether 275 participants attended the program.
The resource person was Ramalakshmi Das, Senior Product Specialist, Orient Black Swan. In the first session, she spoke on “Creating a mission and vision for the school headed by the school leader”. She stressed on the importance of having a vision and mission statement for the school to guide it. Defining the vision and mission of the school would provide the educators and school leaders with a clear purpose for running the educational institution and give the direction for the school to take, she said. The Principals were trained on various aspects such as creating a mission statement and vision for the school as well as providing feedback to the teachers on the instructional practices and making learning more enjoyable for students.
In the second session, she spoke on “Building a cohort of focused educators to execute the plan”. She said it is important for school leaders to team up with other educators so as to realize the vision and mission of the school. The program also discussed the role of the school leader in improving instructional practices for students and addressing the needs of students with varying learning styles to attain maximum learning benefits for each individual student. Furthermore, the program addressed the importance of empowering teachers through up scaling their competencies through trainings that would equip them with the 21st century skills to teach students and to meet their needs while in the classroom.
In the inaugural programme, a short talk was given by the Special Guest, Dr. Neena Jha, Advisor, Education and Skills Practice, KPMG India. She said there are five stakeholders involved in the transformation process namely the student, teacher, parents, administrators and community through three scenarios which are “learn”, “help learn” and “manage learn”. She said as school leaders, one should do its duty with joy.
The programme was chaired by Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, Secretary, NBSE. Asano Sekhose, Chairman, NBSE gave the welcome address. Invocation was pronounced by Kaini Kikon, Principal of Pilgrim Higher Secondary, Dimapur. The programme closed with a remark by the chairperson.
On the 27th April 2022 an orientation programme was held with the Principals of higher secondary schools under Kohima district on the topic of School Mentorship. In this, the Resource Person dwelt at length on how resources can be shared and also how the Principals can mentor other schools to perform better.
