A week-long NCC shooting practice session is currently underway at the CRPF Range in Mokokchung. The event has gathered 60 NCC cadets from various schools and colleges in Mokokchung town. These cadets were allowed to enhance their rifle shooting skills using 0.22” Sporting Rifles.
This event is a part of the 'Weapons Training' curriculum, where cadets are initially taught theory and undergo dry practice sessions in their institutions under the guidance of Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and Permanent Instructor Staff (PI Staff) from the 25 Naga Bn NCC. The practical aspect of shooting with live ammunition is periodically organized at the Shooting Range, with experts guiding the cadets on the intricacies of shooting. Both male and female cadets have displayed a keen interest in acquiring this unique skill.
Colonel CST Swamy, the Commanding Officer of 25 Naga Bn NCC, emphasized that NCC training aims at the holistic development of cadets. It instills discipline, fosters cohabitation in camps, enhances physical fitness, hones public speaking skills, and promotes cultural activities. This comprehensive approach is designed to prepare cadets to become successful and patriotic citizens of the country. Furthermore, NCC equips cadets to excel in entrance exams and interviews for uniformed services, particularly in the Army as Officers and Agniveers. Both the Central Government and the Nagaland State Government offer additional weightage to NCC cadets in their entrance exams. Therefore, NCC training serves as a valuable stepping stone for students aspiring to secure well-paying jobs in both the government and civilian sectors.
The arrangements for the shooting practice have been made by a team from the 25 Naga Bn NCC, led by Lieutenant Colonel Siddharth Upadhyay and First Officer Temjen. The firing range has been made available by the 173 Bn CRPF, and technical and medical support is being provided by the 12 Assam Rifles. The Commanding Officer expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Commandants of the 12 Assam Rifles and 173 Bn CRPF for their valuable support.
