Chief Minister & Leader of the House, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, delivered the obituary reference to late La. Ganesan, former Governor of Nagaland, on the floor of the August House on the first day of the Seventh Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly at NLA Secretariat, Kohima on 2nd September 2025.
Ganesan served as the 21st Governor of Nagaland from 20th February 2022 until his untimely demise on 15th August 2025 at Chennai. Remembering him as a distinguished leader and administrator, Dr. Rio praised his lifelong dedication in the service of the country. He stated that the late Governor lived an illustrious life, spanning several decades marked by simplicity, simplicity and unwavering commitment for the welfare of the people. The Chief Minister noted that during his tenure, Ganesan guided the state with his wisdom and compassion, and made Raj Bhavan accessible to people from every walk of life. He also recalled that as the Governor of Nagaland, Ganesan travelled intensively across the state, engaging with CSOs, government officials and security forces posted in the bordering districts.
Prior to his appointment as the Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan served as the Governor of West Bengal and Manipur. His political career included a term as a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
The August House also paid tribute to late Nungsangyapang, former member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly who passed away on 8th August 2025. Leading the tribute, Speaker Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer stated that late Nungsangyapang was born on 24th October 2025 at Mopungchuket village, Mokokchung was an avid sportsperson who represented Nagaland multiple times at the National level. The Speaker added that late Nungsangyapang was elected from the 23rd Impur Assembly Constituency to the 10th and 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2003 and 2008 respectively.
The members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly observed a minute of silence for the departed souls.
