Phek District AIDS Control Unit commemorated World AIDS Day on December 1, 2023, at Dr. Wethselo T. Mero Memorial Hall Hospital, Phek. The event centered around the theme "Let Community Lead."

 

ADC Phek, Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, NCS, addressed the gathering as the Special Guest, emphasizing the need for support and solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS to ensure a decent living. He acknowledged the progress in diminishing HIV/AIDS spread over the last two decades, attributing it to government policies and initiatives through the AIDS Prevention and Control Unit. ADC urged Civil Societies, Church bodies, and NGOs to collaborate with government agencies for an effective HIV response and emphasized the persistent challenge of stigma in society.

 

Dr. Ngopelo Keviechu, Senior Medical Officer DH Phek, highlighted the benefits of treatment adherence and the consequences of non-adherence for those living with HIV/AIDS. Dr. Ngopelo also provided insights into the origin of HIV/AIDS.

 

Hierotho Kajiri, District DAPCU, underscored the significance of World AIDS Day, and Associate Pastor Khrusazo Nyekha delivered an exhortation. The program featured special performances by Lighthouse Keeper, PTBC, and Kuvethi Nienu.

 

DPO DAPCA Phek, Kuduvo Kezo, chaired the program, with the welcome address given by Thuputo Venuh, Program Manager, ELF. The invocation prayer was pronounced by Sachulo Khing, Pastor Rengma Baptist Church Phek.
