In the following days, Nagaland will experience heavy to extremely severe rainfall, which is predicted to be widespread until the 8th of July 2024.

These showers may be accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning. During this period, extremely heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Noklak, Shamator and Tuensang. Meanwhile, the district-wise weather warning shows that Kiphire, Phek, Noklak, Shamator and Tuensang are likely to experience the most rain among the districts in Nagaland. For these five districts an orange colour (Be prepared) alert has been issued from 2nd to 4th of July 2024.

It is therefore important to take necessary precautionary measures during this time and exercise caution from lightning strikes and gale winds which may cause disruption in communication and connectivity. Due to the likelihood of excessive precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland's lowland and foothill regions, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, are likely to be impacted by inundated water logging and flash floods.

All the major rivers of the State will experience a surge in water level hence it is advised that the public must refrain from picnicking and fishing near river banks. Further farmers are also advised not to camp/sleep over nights beside river banks as flash floods may occur.

The NSDMA, Home Department also requests all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
