Graduation Day of the diploma holders in school counselling for the batches of 2019 & 2022 was held at State Institute Education Management and Training (SIEMT) hall, SCERT, Kohima on the 12th of July 2024. The program was graced by the State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Temsunaro Ao, IAS as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Temsunaro Ao said that the day marks the culmination of a year’s hard work, dedication and a profound commitment in making a difference in the lives of the students. She stated that in a world that is constantly changing, the role of a school counsellor is more critical than ever as they help students navigate through the challenges of academic pressures personal development, and mental health.
Highlighting on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Temsunaro Ao said that the policy emphasises the need for integrated support service in schools, including counselling to address the diverse needs of students. Encouraging on receiving the diploma degree awards, she asked them to give their best in providing school counselling services support to school wherever they are posted. She also stated that counselling services in school are envisioned to provide to students who may be facing emotional, psychological or behaviour challenges. She said that early identification and intervention are extremely vital to provide the time needed support to the students.
Earlier, Temsunaro Ao released a book on a study on Naga traditional practice of socio - emotional expression produced by Professor Dr Zavise Rume and Joint Director, Kegwalo Thyug. She also handed over the awards to the diploma holders on their successful completion of the course. Altogether, 53 completed the course, where 32 are from the 2019 Batch and 21 from the 2022 batch. The diploma holders also took pledge which was administered by the guest of honour.
Director SCERT, Kevira-ü- Kerhuo in her message said that SCERT Nagaland pioneered this diploma course with the vision to provide hands-on, practical training in school counselling. She said that they have completed the fourth batch of the course and trained 128 teachers in this diploma and fifth batch of the course is going on. She also urged them to embrace this responsibility with confidence and dedication.
On behalf of the diploma holders, Samlam Zeliang of 2019 batch and Khovelu Naro of 2022 batch shared their experiences of the course. They acknowledged the department for organizing the programme as well as the unwavering support during the training.
Professor & Head Guidance & Councelling Cell SCERT, Dr. Zavise Rume gave the concluding remarks on the school counseling and other development requirements. The programme was chaired by Reader, SCERT Medemmongla Jamir and was attended by officials from School Education, NBSE and others.
