The Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held at the DPDB Hall on 24th July 2024, with Chairman Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso. Vice- Chairman Kumar Ramnikant IAS chaired the meeting, welcoming a new member and reviewing the minutes from the previous DPDB meeting.

 

Agenda items included presentations from the Mountain Trail Society and the All Nagaland State Carrom Association, both based in Daklane Colony, Kohima. Following their reports, the Board agreed to recommend the registration of both societies. Also, upon authentication by the District Education Officer (DEO), the Board endorsed the proposal for St. Mary's Cathedral Hr. Sec. School.

 

Decision was made to enhance the Village Adoption Scheme funding, increasing it from Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh per constituency under the LADP Common Pool. The Board also scrutinized and approved the proposals under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) for the fiscal year 2024-25.

 

The School Education Department presented a detailed PowerPoint on their activities in Kohima district. The DEO Kohima highlighted that there are 121 government and 97 private schools in the district. She noted the successful distribution of free textbooks and school uniforms, and reported no nil results in the HSLC Exam for the past two years. However, she emphasized the need for improvement in government schools.

 

The DEO also discussed the implementation of PM-POSHAN, the development of digital infrastructure, and various activities conducted in government schools, including Science, Maths, and Environment exhibitions, Social and Emotional Learning for Teachers, sports activities, self-defense classes for girls, vocational education, special needs education, Performance Incentives Grant, and the Nagaland Education Project- the Lighthouse project (NECTAR).

 

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department demonstrated water testing procedures to check water quality and distributed testing kits to the members.
