The two day National Conference on Cybercrime, Digital Forensics & Intelligence began with a short inaugural programme at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on 25th July 2024 with Advisor IT&C, Economics Statistic & Evaluation, Sethrongkyu Sangtam as the Special Guest and Secretary Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India S. Krishnan, IAS as the Guest of Honour. The Conference is being held under the theme “Cyber Secure Bharat: Fortifying India’s Digital Future”. 

Speaking at the inaugural programme Advisor IT&C, Economics Statistic & Evaluation, Sethrongkyu Sangtam said that in today’s world cyber security has become very important and highlighted the constant threats to our digital security which in turn would harm our national security, economy and public safety. He further stressed on the need to collaborate, share knowledge and come out with innovative solutions and build a strong defence against cyber threats. He said that ensuring cyber security was not just the job of the government but rather it requires a team effort from all sections of society, and that public-private partnerships are essential to drive innovation and enhance our cyber defence capabilities. In conclusion he hoped that the conference would provide valuable insights and foster meaningful collaborations and urged all to take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen our cyber security measures and build a safer digital future for our country.

Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India S. Krishnan, IAS in his brief speech acknowledged the various projects undertaken by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology especially under National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) in the North Eastern Region to bridge the digital divide across the country and improve the digital services in the region. He said that one area where the country faces significant risk is cyber security and emphasised on the need to improve cyber security measures, especially with the increase in the usage of Information Technology in governance. He further said that the endeavour should be a continuous process with constant upgrades and keeping in tune with the latest developments across the digital world.

National Security Officer, India & South Asia, Microsoft Mandar Kulkarni also spoke at the programme and said that there is a difficult cyber landscape as a result of two decades of rapid digitalization, proliferation of the internet and rapid access to technology to both users and threat actors and has made the jobs of cyber defence experts very difficult. He highlighted the various challenges faced in ensuring and providing cyber security to its users. He further emphasised on the need to invest in skilling of the workforce, creating awareness of cyber threats also the need to adopt new technologies to counter the cyber threat actors who are evolving day by day. 

Short Speeches were also given by DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma IPS, Sr. Director & CG HRD, MeitY, GOI, A K Pipal, Commissioner & Secretary, IT&C, Muhammed Ali Shihab, IAS and DG, NIELIT- MeitY, GOI Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi. 

Secretary Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India S. Krishnan, IAS has launched the project “Empowering Police Personnel and Government Officials of NE States through IT and Cyber Security Training” as part of the inaugural programme. 

Earlier, Director, NIELIT, Kohima L Lanuwabang gave the welcome address while the vote of thanks was pronounced by Daniel Meren Addl. Director NIELIT. The National Conference on Cybercrime, Digital Forensics & Intelligence 2024 is being organised by National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology, Kohima, Government of India in association with Nagaland Police, Government of Nagaland and Department of Information Technology & Communication, Government of Nagaland supported by United Service Institution of India.
