The Good Samaritan Senior Citizen's Home, Meriema, Kohima celebrated its 19th Foundation Day on 1st August 2024.

Former Director, Social Welfare Department, GoN, T. Khevito Shohe, while speaking as a Special Guest appreciated the Director and staff of Good Samaritan Senior Citizen's Home in taking the initiatives for the noble cause since the elderly persons who are in the Senior Citizen's Home are those persons who have no one to take care of or looked after. At the same time he also encouraged the senior citizens to be thankful to God for blessing a long life in spite of being in a Senior Citizen's Home without family as those who are at their home may not be enjoying the good times as they are enjoying. Khevito also urged the inmates to be thankful to God and continue to pray for the management. He also urged the government as well as the individuals to come forward in contributing towards the cause of senior citizens.

While highlighting a brief history of the Old Age Home, Neithonuo Liegise, Chairperson of Good Samaritan Welfare Society and Director, Good Samaritan Senior Citizen's Home urged the state government to come with bigger policies and creative programs that is productive and meaningful for the senior citizens and requested to allot financial assistance for the elderly people. She also expressed and suggested that it will be of great help if the departments like Health & Family Welfare and Food & Civil Supply could contribute towards the cause of taking care of elderly persons in the state. 

Earlier, Executive Member, GSWS, Juliana Medom spoke on Elderly Care, citing that old age is inevitable that everyone has to remember. She also said that being in the old age home is not only about care but about friendship as well and urged the government agencies to come forward with good initiatives for the welfare of the aged people.
