More than 60 law students has completed One-Month Summer Internship programme organized by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) from July 1- August 1, 2024.
During a culmination programme organized at DC conference hall, Kohima, NSLSA Member Secretary, Victo Sema, NJS encouraged law students to be perseverant and motive driven in law profession.
He said that the internship programme is provided every year for law student to give them a glance of different subject matter that will find it relevant in future practice especially in different institutions related to law.
Sema also spoke about the purpose of setting up legal services authorities asserting that it was mandate of the constitution, in respect to Legal Services act, 1987 where the legal services authorities are hierarchically exist from national, state, districts and taluks.
It said that therefore it is set up to create legal awareness and provide legal assistance especially to uplift poor and marginalized section of the society.
Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kohima & Chairperson, Kohima district Legal Services Authority also exhorted the interns and encouraged the students to be persistent and be hardworking. She also congratulated the students for completing the internship.
Retainer Lawyer, NSLSA, Apila Sangtam shared experience on legal services and legal profession. Sangtam said that it is a noble profession where one should not compromise our integrity.
She said legal services gives opportunities for young lawyers to start their practice by providing various platforms to explore such as engage in first hand court proceedings, extend legal services. She added that it has taught her to be noble by helping people in the marginalized section.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Cherry Ovung, State Panel Lawyer, NSLSA. Interns also presented reports on the month long programme.
A total of 61 interns undertook internship with different District Legal services authority and were given opportunity to observe court proceedings at District Courts and High Court, Kohima Bench.
They also visited Lok Ayukta, Jails different homes, Legal Aid Defense Counsel, different homes and institutes among others.
