The Finance Department of the Government of Nagaland has announced the launch of Phase I of the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMULIS), which is now open to all beneficiaries of the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS). Beneficiaries with a valid CMHIS ID can log in to the designated portal to update their household's breadwinner information, if necessary.

Phase II of CMULIS is expected to open soon for families not currently covered under CMHIS, with further notifications to follow. CMULIS provides life insurance coverage of ₹2 lakh for the breadwinner's demise from any cause. It also offers ₹2 lakh of accidental insurance for the breadwinner and three additional family members, covering both disability and death. In the case of accidental death, the insured amount is ₹2 lakh for each beneficiary, ₹2 lakh for total and irrecoverable loss of both eyes or loss of use of both hands or feet, and ₹1 lakh for the total and irrecoverable loss of sight in one eye or loss of use of one hand or foot. As per PMJJBY guidelines, the age limit for general households is set at 18-50 years, while currently serving government employees have an extended limit of 18-60 years. The head of the family, as indicated on the CMHIS card, will be designated as the breadwinner. Families can log into the portal to modify the designated breadwinner for the life insurance coverage.
Verification and Registration Process:

The data of all eligible families and their designated breadwinners is available on the official website. The verification portal will remain open until August 20, 2024. After this date, unverified data will be considered authenticated for insurance registration. Families are encouraged to log in to the website and verify the details of family members covered under the life and accidental insurance schemes at no cost.

Steps to Verify Family Members and Modify Coverage:

1.Verification:
 - Visit www.cmulis.gov.in.

 - Enter your CMHIS ID.

 - Verify the registered mobile number and request an OTP.

 - Enter the OTP to view family member details and insurance coverage.

 - Confirm or modify details as necessary.

2. Changing the Designated Breadwinner:

Families without a government servant can designate a new breadwinner by logging in, selecting the person, and pressing "Mark as Breadwinner."

3. Accidental Insurance Coverage: Families can change accidental insurance coverage for up to four members by following similar login and modification steps.

4. Changing Nominees for Insurance Claims: To modify nominee details for insurance claims, log in, select "Modify Nominations," and follow the prompts.

Special Instructions for Government Servants:

Government servants will be automatically designated as the head of the family and breadwinner for life insurance coverage. If there are multiple government servants in a household, they can be added for coverage alongside the designated breadwinner.

Additional Provisions: Families with deceased members not yet updated in the CMHIS can mark the member as "Expired" to designate a new breadwinner. The portal also includes options to indicate whether family members have bank accounts, facilitating assistance for opening accounts if needed, as bank details are essential for claim processing and additional insurance coverage.

For further details and assistance, beneficiaries have been urged to visit the CMULIS website.
