The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour in Chumoukedima District on 15th August, 2024. The event took place at Chumoukedima Town Public ground, with T. R. Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister, Planning & Transformation, National Highway as the Chief Guest.
The celebration started with flag hoisting and inspection of the parade followed by Rastriya Salute. The parade contingents were led by parade commander Medemikala Tzudir, NPS and second in command led by ABI, Kitskha Achumi, 1st NAP Battalion, Chumoukedima.
The contingents participating in the parade were- NAP Battalion, Ex- serviceman, NCC Patkai Christian College, NCC GHSS Chumoukedima, NCC St. Joseph University and pipe band.
Earlier, T.R Zeliang read out the Independence Day speech and also inaugurated exhibition stalls represented by various departments and organizations showcasing the district achievements. The cultural essence of the region was highlighted by Tati, Folksong by Vekhulemi Cultural group, United village and Kuwo(women folk dance) by Sumi Cultural club, Chekiye, followed by Aerobic Dance by St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and ARTC, Pipe band, Shoxhuvi adding vibrant hues to the celebration. Also, as a part of the celebration various departments visited homes & institutions.
