The 78th India Independence Day was celebrated in Mokokchung on 15th August 2024 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, with Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change and Village Guard, C. L. John hoisted the National Flag and took Rashtriya Salute from 11 parade contingents.

The Minister after delivering the Independence Day Speech also gave away the District Commendation Award 2024 and inaugurated the Exhibition Stalls. 

The 11 (Eleven) parade contingents that took part in the March Past includes DEF Mokokchung, 13th (IR) NAP, Ex Servicemen, NCC MGHSS, NCC Fazl Ali College, Scout & Guides Queen Mary HSS, Scout & Guides MGHSS, District Scout & Guides, Sumi GMS, GMS Imrong Ungma and Band Platoon 2nd NAP Alichen. The contingents were led by Asst. Commandant 2nd NAP Alichen, Benrio NPS and ABI DEF, Mokokchung as parade commander and Second in Command respectively. 

The highlights of the programme included cultural presentation by Gorkha Union, Mokokchung and Watemdong Cultural Club, Ungma, followed by Tug of War, Match between Departmental Officers and MMC Councillors. Later in the evening the exhibition Football match was played between DPDB XI and MFL 35+.
