The 78th Independence Day celebration was held at Local Ground, Phek district Headquarter on 15th August 2024 with Speaker NLA, Sharingain Longkumer as the Special Guest on 15th of August 2024. The Special Guest unfurled the National Flag followed by Rashtriya Salute and National Anthem, Independence Day speech and inspection of parade contingents.
Seventeen parade contingents took part in the celebration which includes: 38 Assam Rifle Phek, DEF, 5th NAP, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Ex-Servicemen, 24 Nagaland NCC Boys, 1st Bn. NCC Girls, NCC Phek Govt. College, Bharat Guides CMHSS, GHS Bethel, Royal Foundation School, Holy Care School, Christian Home School, Kiddies Corner School, Bishop Abraham Memorial School, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Pipe Band 38th Assam Rifles. Assistant Commandant. Vedupe Lasuh, NPS of 5th NAP, Phek and ABI, Keviltuo Soliezuo, DEF, Phek were the parade commander and parade Second-in-Command at the celebration.
Longkumer also inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by Agriculture and Allied Departments. Special performances from Bishop Abraham Memorial School, Assam Rifles School, Folk dance by Mutsale Culture Troupe were the highlights of the celebration. The Special Guest also gave away the awards to the best performing Anganwati workers under Phek district. Thousands of people from all walks of life including government officials, Students, Village leaders/GBs and Public leaders attended the function.
