The State-funded program "Skill Training for Rural Women through the Mobile Skill Morung" organized by the Department of Employment, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, successfully concluded its first phase at Jakhama, Kohima on 31st August 2024. The program, which began on 19th August 2024, aimed to empower rural women by bringing skill training directly to their doorsteps.

The special guest, MLA Kevipodi Sophie, encouraged the trainees to apply their newly acquired skills and explore self-employment opportunities. He thanked the department for making such programs accessible to the rural population. The Chairman of the Adhoc-Town Committee, Jakhama, expressed gratitude to Kevipodi Sophie for facilitating the program.

Joint Director of Employment, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, spoke to the trainees about various opportunities for self-sustenance and urged the Village Development Boards (VDBs) to continue supporting these women for the betterment of the community.

The “Mobile Skill Morung” initiative was designed with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by rural women, many of whom are unable to participate in traditional skill development programs due to family obligations and limited mobility. By offering training in their local areas, the program seeks to promote economic independence and self-reliance among these women. The first phase focused on baking skills and trained 25 women from the Jakhama area.

All successful trainees were awarded certificates and essential baking toolkits, including an oven, blender, baking tray, muffin mould, knife, and digital scale, to help them transition from training to self-employment.

The program was chaired by Regional Employment Officer T. Zuthunglo Ezung, with an invocation by Catechist Koleto Richa of the Catholic Church in Jakhama. The training partner, Pinnacle Skills, offered a vote of thanks.

The final phase of the training, targeting 50 rural women, is scheduled to launch on 2nd September 2024, in Nuiland and Mokokchung.
