A meeting of the Kohima District Committee for Lighthouse Schools (DCLS), chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Ramnikant was held on 27th November 2024 at the DPDB Conference Hall to review the progress of the World Bank-funded Lighthouse School Project under the NECTAR initiative.

The NECTAR team presented a detailed overview of the project, highlighting its goals to establish model residential schools in rural areas, prevent urban migration, and enhance educational standards. The presentation covered the hub-and-spoke school design, community involvement, school selection criteria, and adherence to environmental and social standards.

The project, launched in April 2021, initially covered 11 districts but has now expanded to 16, with construction set to begin soon and completion expected by June 2026. Stakeholders were informed that the initiative prioritizes biodiversity conservation and the protection of indigenous heritage.

The meeting was attended by public leaders, district officials, and other key stakeholders, all of whom expressed their commitment to the success of this transformative educational initiative.
